Je Maintiendrai

From Hobart Marius and I traveled to Burney Island, where we were offered beer and sang: “it’s all right to be a redneck” with some young people from Hobart.

The rednecks were quite amazed by the fact that we had finished all their beers and still possessed sufficient motor skills to keep going. Tassie as the Ozzies like to call Tasmania showed its cold and rainy side when we drove into “the western wilderness” the temperature dropped close to zero (IT WAS SUMMER!). We were told that there were platypussies in the little creek near our campsite so we went looking for them several times. I didn’t see the weird animal, but Marius claims he did….. We were forced to take the boat a few days earlier so we took two instead of four days to hike to Cradle Mountain (1545m) and King Solomons Throne.
Back in Melbourne Marius kicked me out of his van to make room for a Fraulein and I went looking for a job. After one week I had an interview for a job on a construction site, I would get $220 a day! Stupid as I was I paid the $220 deposit for the safety equipment that I would get the first working day. Nobody showed up so that day…. It’s safe to say that I was kind of frustrated because of this, so since I couldn’t get a decent job and autumn was coming I took the next flight to Perth.
I stayed one week in Perth and Fremantle and did some sightseeing and job searching without success before I found a ride up North. So now I am traveling with two girls in a Landcruiser where I spent most time sitting in the middle with the driveshaft between my legs, nice! We had some really nice campsites, but on one of them to use my Dutch dyke building skills to prevent my tent from flooding! We saw some dolphins at Monkey Mia and tomorrow I hope to be at the Ningalore reef!
